Hannover 5-2 Freiburg
Andreas Bergmann must have solved his team's goalscoring problems this week because Hannover broke out with their best offensive showing of the season. Midfielders Sofian Chahed and Arnold Bruggink put their team up 2-0 early on before Ivica Banovic pulled one back for Freiburg. Karim Haggui scored an important third for Hannover at the stroke of half-time.
With eight minutes to go, Julian Schuster handed his side a lifeline to make it 3-2, but it was not enough. Hannover responded swiftly, with Didier Ya Konan scoring a fourth and Sergio Pinto making it 5-2 in the final seconds.
Bayern 0-0 Koeln
Bayern dominated possession but were completely inept in attack. Koeln flirted with the idea of having an outlet forward during the first half, but later scrapped the plan and played 10 men behind the ball. Thomas Schaaf wept. Helenio Herrera rejoiced. I, along with several fans at the Allianz Arena, fell asleep.
Leverkusen 4-0 Nuernberg
Leverkusen didn't wait nearly as long to score as they did last week. Following a foul at the edge of the penalty area, Toni Kroos curled a pretty free kick into the top-left corner. On the half hour mark, Kroos earned a penalty, which was well taken by Simon Rolfes to double the home team's advantage. Leverkusen made it 3-0 after the half hour mark, with Eren Derdiyok finishing well after nice build-up play from Sami Hyypia, Rolfes, and Stefan Kiessling.
In the second half, Leverkusen remained firmly in control. Having already won the game, the home side applied a bit less pressure. Stefan Kiessling rounded off a fine performance with his league-leading sixth goal of the season.
Bochum 1-1 Wolfsburg
After a scoreless first half, Bochum took a well-deserved lead through Vahid Hashemian, who headed in a free kick. Bochum's opener roused the sleeping Wolves, who rallied late. After Shinji Ono picked up a second booking in the 63rd minute, Wolfsburg commanded the play. Edin Dzeko levelled with a quarter hour to go, and substitute Obafemi Martins hit the most three minutes later. Bochum survived the Wolves' onslaught to pick up a well-deserved point.
Mainz 2-1 Hoffenheim
It was a wonder start for Mainz against Hoffenheim's sturdy back line. Andreas Ivanschitz (6) and Aristide Bance (11) got Mainz off to an impressive lead before Hoffenheim could react.
Hoffe responded well in the second half, but lacked accuracy in the final third, and rarely tested Mainz keeper Heinz Mueller. In the 87th minute, Andreas Ibertsberger finally pulled one back for Hoffenheim, but it was too little, too late. Mainz passed Wolfsburg and drew level on points with Hoffe.
Borussia M'gladbach - Borussia Dortmund
The first half was evenly played between the two Prussian sides. Ultimately, it was the class of one that separated the contestants before halftime. Argentine goalscoring phenom Lucas Barrios continued to draw from a rich vein of form, striking in a long-ranged effort in the 38th minute.
The second half was played similarly to the first, with Dortmund edging out their hosts to make the more opportunities on goal. Despite the efforts of Mohamed Zidan and Tamas Hajnal, the score remained 1-0.
